In the age of the internet celebrity, it seems as though anyone can be famous, and that includes cats! From the good to the grumpy, here are our top five celebrity cats!
5. Choupette Lagerfeld
Being the pet of one of the world’s most influential fashion designers, it’s no wonder that Choupette has had her fair share of the limelight. Starring in campaigns for make-up lines and a car company, little Choupette earned a reported £2 million last year, more than top supermodel, Cara Delevigne. With her own Wikipedia page and two maids tending to her every need, Choupette is truly the kitty queen!
4. Fatso, A.K.A. Keyboard Cat
In 2007, this video of Fatso the cat apparently playing a keyboard was uploaded to Youtube by his owner, Charlie Schmidt, and it quickly went viral. Sadly though, the video was actually filmed in 1984, and by the time Fatso became famous, he had been in kitty heaven for 20 years. At least he can live on through his video, which has amassed a staggering 41.5 million views!
3. Doctor Meredith Grey and Detective Olivia Benson(Video)
Taylor Swift’s moggies are celebrities to her millions of fans, having appeared in adverts and music videos alongside the singer. They were both named after Taylor’s favourite characters from two of her favourite TV shows, Grey’s Anatomy and Law and Order. The two Scottish folds make frequent appearances on the star’s Instagram feed, and are used to the celebrity lifestyle, frequently accompanying their owner on private jet flights.
The most followed pet in the world, Nala, a rescue, has (at the time of writing) over 2.3 million followers on Instagram, where she goes by the @nala_cat. This wide-eyed moggy has been a hit across the world, and now has her own internet store selling all sorts of Nala-themed merchandise! After all, you haven’t truly made it until people can buy a pillow with your face on it!
1. Tardar Sauce, A.K.A. Grumpy Cat
The most famous, or at least most successful, cat is Tardar Sauce, or Grumpy cat as she is best known, who gained millions of fans worldwide after a picture of her scowling went viral in 2012. Since then she has gone on to star in her own TV movie, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever, gained 7 million likes on Facebook, and become an internet meme. We think that it might be time for Grumpy to cheer up – she earned a reported $64 million in the two years up to 2014, and she is set to get her own waxwork in Madame Tussauds!
