Doggy Recipe: Quick Sweet Potato Snacks

How to make sweet potato dog treats

Sweet potato is an ingredient found in many shop-bought dog foods and treats and, as well as being a doggy superfood, dogs can’t get enough of it! These snacks are incredibly easy to make, and will provide your pooch with a tasty, healthy and cheap treat!

  • Sweet Potato (that’s all!)

Scrub a sweet potato and cut into slices around 2cm thick, leaving the skin on. Cutting thicker slices will mean that they take longer to cook, but the end result will be more substantial and will take longer for your dog to chew through.

Place the slices on baking parchment or on a very lightly greased baking tray, and make sure that they’re far enough apart to not be touching.

Put the tray on the top shelf in the oven at around 100°C (or slightly lower than Gas Mark 1), and leave for 3 – 3½ hours.

When they are done, take the snacks out of the oven to cool, or turn off the oven and let them cool in there for extra chewiness!

And there you have it! A delicious treat that your dog will go mad for!

Top tip: Don’t season the potatoes! Even though you might think it will make a more flavoursome snack, too much salt in a dog’s diet causes various health problems, and should be avoided.
