Work We Love: Handfuls of Trouble

Canadian photographer, Jesse Holland, has found a novel way of photographing her 2-year-old daughter, Ella, and her Frenchie/Boston Terrier-mix, Charlie, by placing them in identical poses and scenarios to find out “who wore it better?”.

Thanks in part to Ella’s cheeky grin and Charlie’s underbite (we love a dog with an underbite here at PawPost!), the project has been a huge hit, having grown exponentially in popularity since it was begun over a year ago, and has been featured on Buzzfeed and Huffington Post to name a few!

Writing for Bored Panda, Holland says that it all started when baby Ella was given a hat by her grandparents. “It was cute on her, and I thought I would see what our dog, Charlie, looked like with it on”, she tells Buzzfeed. “He was NOT impressed with it, but I was on the floor laughing at his sad reaction!”

Since then, Holland has been filling her Tumblr feed with adorable portraits of child and dog in all sorts of identical outfits and scenarios. The photos follow Ella and Charlie through every step of their lives, from being taken on hikes around British Colombia, to bathtimes and lazy afternoons at home – with plenty of appearances from the hat that started it all!

Here are some more of our favourite photos from the project:
