They say every dog has its day, but it looks like one cheeky pooch is having her year, after running a half marathon and coming 7th, all without her owner’s knowledge. Last Saturday morning, owner April Hamlin, of Elkmont, Alabama, let her dog, a 2-year-old bloodhound called Ludivine, out into the garden. Little did she know that the puppy with a penchant for taking solo walks around town was about to go on an adventure of her own!
Ludivine managed to find her way to the starting line of the first annual Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon, and then astounded racegoers as she followed them along the entire 13.1 mile course. Fellow runner Jim Clemens told Runners World, ““Every time I thought she had dropped off to go back home, I would hear her coming back up to me, and she would race past me up to the two leaders. She would run off to romp through streams and into yards to sniff around for a while.”
Ludivine crossed the finish line in 7th place, with the very respectable time of 1:32:56, and was even rewarded a medal for her efforts – much to the surprise of her owner! And since then, thanks to the overwhelming national and international media coverage, the 2017 half marathon has been renamed Elkmont’s Hound Dog Half, in honour of Ludivine herself!
